Autumn time in Rovaniemi

Autumn time in Rovaniemi

Rovaniemi Church is open 11:00–13:00 from Monday to Friday when also priest is available. Wednesday services start @18:00 and Sunday Masses @10:00.

The activities of the autumn season have started and two themes emerge from the calendar of the church year at the turn of August and September, which we should always remember and keep in mind:

Neighbor

With his life and teachings, Jesus was an example of God’s love, which transcends all boundaries. This role model obliges us to see in every person our neighbor. From Christ we also get the strength to do good deeds for our neighbors. Man himself is not always aware that when he does good, he acts as an intermediary for God’s love.

Gratitude

This saint speaks of gratitude and ingratitude. Jesus did good especially to people rejected by others. Of the people he helped, only a few came back to thank him and confess their faith in him. Others were bothered by the fact that Jesus did not act the way they wanted, but he wanted to do good to everyone without distinction.

Finnish military oath is over 100 years old

The oath song, on the other hand, is about 150 years old, and its birth and history embody the awakening of our country’s national identity and its strengthening as an independent Finland. The lyrics of the song support the idea of a conscript taking an oath to serve his and her country and doing it with honor. The current military oath of independent Finland became exactly 106 years old on August 16th, 2024. Almost 1,000 recruits who entered the Lapland Jaeger Batallion and Rovaniemi aircraft precaution service battery on July 8th became jaegers and gunners at a military oath ceremony. In the picture on page 8, the jaegers and gunners are leaving the Sodankylä sports field. A total of around 4,000 relatives and closest ones of the recruits participated in the military oath ceremony. Check out video clips: https://bit.ly/3Augds1

Helping Ukrainians strengthens cooperation between congregations

The events in Ukraine have shocked people across the globe, including people in Finland and Rovaniemi. - If we must find something good about the terrible events in Ukraine, then helping Ukrainians has made local congregations strengthen their cooperation, says the student pastor in Rovaniemi parish, Jan Pohjonen. Jan Pohjonen says that the crisis in Ukraine has affected activities in Rovaniemi parish in many ways. - The war in Ukraine has revealed something about our humanity, which we have perhaps wanted to forget. As the war in Ukraine came on top of stress about the coronavirus, the burden has been heavy for many. In short, the situation in Ukraine has come up in my work as increased need for conversation, says Pohjonen. “Everyone is equal” - In the daily work of the parish, the crisis in Ukraine is of course also visible in the arrival of Ukrainian refugees in Rovaniemi. Those fleeing the war in Ukraine receive help from the parish in the same spirit of charity as all other r...
