Communion of Saints
All Saints’ Day (festum omnium sanctorum) is celebrated
on 1 November and All Souls’ Day (commemoratio omnium fidelium defenctorum) is celebrated
on 2 November. This means that we remember all Christian martyrs as well as
others who have died with faith in Christ. During these days, we remember holy
people, but the word ‘holy’ does not only refer to the dead. Everyone is holy
in Christ. In faith, we are all a part of the invisible communion of saints.
The traditional gospel reading for this day is the Beatitudes from the
beginning of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. According to our Christian creed, we
can become part of an invisible communion of saints.
Jesus said that God’s kingdom is a gift. He promised to
forgive even the worst of sins. Jesus sends his followers out to the world to
declare his grace and to serve people in his name. A Christian is a messenger
of the Redeemer and acts as Christ to other people.
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his
master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be
blessed if you do them.
I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have
chosen. But this is to fulfil this passage of Scripture: ‘He who shared my
bread has turned against me.’ I am telling you now before it happens, so that
when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am. Very truly I tell you,
whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the
one who sent me.” (From John 13)

In the PARISH ELECTIONS, members of the church council
are chosen.
The CHURCH COUNCIL is chosen through elections for a
four-year period. The church council is the highest decision-making body in a
parish. The church council makes the most important decisions regarding the
parish’s finances and office holders, and it also elects members for the church
board. The church council makes decisions about parish activities and finances,
church tax, construction projects and new offices. The elected members of the
church council have the right to vote in the diocese council elections, the
general synod elections and the episcopal election.
The CHURCH BOARD leads parish activities, administration
and financial and property management and acts as the church council’s
preparatory and enforcing body. The church board represents the parish in
